Shoulder pain & frozen shoulder physiotherapy
कंधे का दर्द · फ्रोजन शोल्डर
Can't lift your arm overhead, reach behind your back or sleep on one side? Many shoulder problems improve with guided stretching, hands-on therapy and the right strengthening.
The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, which also makes it easy to strain. Pain can come from the rotator cuff tendons, from the joint capsule tightening (frozen shoulder), or from the neck and upper back.
Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) causes painful, gradually increasing stiffness. It is more common between 40 and 60 years of age and in people with diabetes. It can take many months to settle, and physiotherapy aims to manage pain and keep as much movement as possible through each stage.
What we commonly see
- Frozen shoulderPain and stiffness that slowly limits lifting, reaching and dressing.
- Rotator cuff strain / tendinopathyPain on lifting the arm sideways or overhead, often at night.
- ImpingementCatching pain in an arc of movement when you raise the arm.
- After a dislocation or fractureRebuilding movement and strength once your doctor allows.
- Shoulder pain from the neckPain felt in the shoulder that actually starts in the neck.
Signs physiotherapy may help
- Pain lifting your arm or reaching behind your back
- Waking up at night with shoulder pain
- Stiffness that is slowly getting worse
- Weakness carrying bags or lifting objects
- Clicking or catching with pain
See a doctor first if you have
- Shoulder pain after a fall with deformity, or you cannot lift the arm at all
- Left shoulder or arm pain with chest pain, breathlessness or sweating — seek emergency care
- A hot, red, swollen shoulder with fever
If any of these apply, please get medical advice before starting physiotherapy. We are happy to work alongside your doctor.

How long does frozen shoulder take to get better?
Frozen shoulder often takes many months to settle, and the timeline varies from person to person. Physiotherapy aims to manage pain and keep movement during that time. We will explain what to expect after assessing you.
Should I rest my shoulder completely?
Complete rest is usually not ideal because the shoulder can stiffen further. Gentle, guided movement within comfort is generally better. We will show you what is safe.
I have diabetes and a stiff shoulder. Can you help?
Yes. Frozen shoulder is more common in people with diabetes. Please share your medical details at the assessment so we can plan safely.
